Denmark evacuates embassies

Denmark embarks on a new mission to publish sarcasm. In 2006, Danish and Norwegian newpapers published a series of drawings depicting Mohammed in cartoons. The result was buring embassies and riots.

Now, Danish newspaper have reprinted one of the cartoons, and Denmark is evacuating, or considering evacuation of their embassies in North Africa, the Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Dear Lina,

thank you for your local insights! This was a not a shut-down operation, only a crisis evacuation of some of the embassies in the region due to short-term violence, or threats of such.

Diplomats never stops working - even though they may decide a temporary evac is the best short-term option.

Danish Embassy in Syria has been very active in reconciling different point of views and source of misunderstanding between the two cultures. In fact, just recently JCI Damascus office was approach by the Danish institute to promote for a new developmental program that is going to be conducted sometimes in July or August. http://www.ambdamaskus.um.dk/en/menu/TheEmbassy/The+Danish+Institute+in+Damascus/ So, it appears that the Danish embassy has no intentions to pull anytime soon from Syria.
