The Estonian Cyberwar has a positive side! Finally politicians are getting the message that Cyberterrorists will use all means to take out a country.
Seems EU and Nato is receiving the message from the Cybercriminals. It is in due time. Internet has been a great source of information, and provides a perfect communication tool. Add to it the ease of attacking and exploiting users, companies and now countries, and you really start wondering why the governments has been so slow understanding the risk.
DoD and its equivalents in the EU countries need to address this issue in a more direct manner. It is due time to take the discussions out from the labs and put it to work.
Map the areas of risk in the society. Find adequate defenses. Define the possible outcomes and the possible costs. Set up defense strategies, priorities and actions. Prepare counter measures. Have a plan ready when it happens. Because it is not a question of if - it is a question of when.
Perhaps it is time to look into a CyberDoD? With international connections and networks, where exploits, terrorists and cyber criminals are monitored, tracked, hunted down and taken care of. A Cyber NATO, mixing intelligence, Interpol, military and with direct access to diplomatic channels in addition to the necessary carte blanche to hunt down the criminals and terrorists.
The Internet is vast, it enables a speed of attack unheard of. New weapons requires new strategies and tactics. And new rules to be made. It is time to be pro active - to prepare!
