I have many of my blogs hosted by Wordpress.com which has Akismet as a standard tool. In my English blog alone Akismet has caught 93.500 spam comments since January 2006. The error rate (i.e blocking a legitimate comment or letting spam through) is amazingly low and Akismet tends to learn from its own mistakes.
